In the past, Shueishang was known as Shueijuetou. After 1950, when Taiwan reorganized its local governments, Shueishang was incorporated into Chiayi County and named Shueishang Township, taking up 69.1198 square kilometers. The coordinates of the township are: 23°26’N, 120°24’E. The Tropic of Cancer passes through the southwest of Chiayi City. The township is on a slightly narrow, square-like plain. The main waterway in the township is Bajhang River, which enters the township at its northeast tip and exits from its southern tip, and continues to flow in a westerly direction. The river forms a natural boundary between Shueishang Township and its neighbor Houbi Township in Tainan County.
